My Angst

MANILA, Philippines ----- I become deaf over friends who would wax rhapsodic stories of the unlimited joy romance brings to their married life. If only I could understand that glowing feeling of contentment that comes with knowing you have found your life partner. Sadly, I could not. It has become my angst!

Married friends try to convert their unattached friends. Is it because they’re happy they can’t believe anyone would want to be single — or they’re miserable that they resent anyone who isn’t in the same boat. Pardon the pun. There’s no doubt in the sincerity of their wishes for me.

In today’s enlightened times, Filipinos get suspicious in a woman over 28 who has remained single. It’s unfortunate yet funny to meet people, whom I perceived to lack social grace and tact, who with candor, throw malicious questions if I fit the package of the 21st century success-driven woman who is cynical, bitter, difficult-to-be-with, and bordering on psychosis.

As if these were not enough, they conclude that I lack interest on romance. Surprisingly, I get the most laughs listening to their unsolicited opinions. Far worse, there are casual friends who drop the bombshell that I’m lesbian. When insults failed, they threaten that a woman’s single life has an expiry date!

Whew! Seriously now, that somehow managed to send chills to my scoliotic spine! I wish I can freeze the life span of my reproductive department as I ponder upon what I want. I roll with laughter capturing into words my emotions and state of mind.

Life is too short for pretense. Hence, I won’t play expert how I hurdle with angst sleeping alone on my queen-sized bed. As movie actor Piolo Pascual puts it, "Angst is the German word for agony".  Grrrr! Damn right it is!

Hi! i think that at ur age, its time to find a partner and settle down if u r thinking of starting a family. Pardon me to say this, but i think women’s ’shelflife’, expires much earlier than men. So, instead of being frustrated over ur friends’ comments, why not prove to them that u r as ‘normal’ as they are! Judging by ur physical appearance, i seriously doubt that u’ll encounter difficulties in attracting the opposite sex. Conclusion, go baby go!!

Its meh dear. Hope this note will ring a bell to yourself and to your friends.

How i wish that you could accept somebody’s feelings and trust them.

Its would matter after all. Love and confidence will not be materialized if no one will prove to it.

    Miss yah.

No matter who you are or what you are… you surely deserve to be happy. Every1 s entitled with its own opinion! you dont have to prove or explain anything or everything to people around you. As what they say, people who like and love you dont need that(explaination)and people in the opposite side will not believe any single truth you will say or explain to them. Ibelieve.. it is always better to be your self than to live a lie…trying to please others! BASTA NO MATTER WHAT.. DONT FORGET THAT I AM A FRIEND. peace…….

Kelvin, you’re such a darling. Thanks for the positive review and the sincere advice.

Roger, you are right! I do not know how to trust a man. Thanks for putting my blind spots to my attention.

Bev, did I bump into you last week at Dunkin Donuts SM Cebu? I wasn’t sure if it was you. It’s been 13 years since graduation. How time flies!

Orville, I think I know now what I’m missing. *Wink* Pssst. Let’s not post it here. There might be children reading this. Parental guidance is required. LOL.
