BANTAYAN ISLAND, CEBU, Philippines ----- Some
people find their greatest fulfillment in marriage. Some find it in the
solitude of singleness. Too many would wish to get married, yet when they are
into it, they wish to reclaim their freedom. I am certifying the obvious!
Whether single or married, we need to find our own balance.
In
my 35 years, I come across people who attempt to cure my perceived
loneliness. Too often I get comments like: “what’s wrong with you and you’re
still single?” It’s frustrating how insensitive and callous the Philippine
culture looks at singles. I am being name-tagged with "factory defect.”
Men
ask why I work hard. They rationalize that I don’t have a husband to support,
no children to send to school, no diapers and milk to buy. I can only smile and
sigh. I work doubly hard because I am single! At the event I get sick, I don’t have a husband’s income to lean on. Jet planes have twin engines to support it in times of distress. Singles rely on themselves to stay afloat in troubled waters.
To say that singles are cowards of greater responsibilities is a cliché! In today’s troubled times not too many are willing to tread on the road less traveled.

Thats true i find it stupid to have such comment questioning why a single work so hard.She-He has to.Among the sis and bros of my mother it’s only my mom got married. And they’re seriously handling their own business and very cheansy with spending. As in. Singles who have a good job, with neices and nephews, good family, with friends for me is okey.

Roger, thanks for the vote of confidence ;-) You make me feel I am Ms. Universe. Hahaha! I hope life is treating you well in your migration to Canada. We might not share the same paths but the net will bridge the distance. I’ll keep in touch. Take care always my friend.
